These reports concentrate on more unusual species or significant counts or movements. 27th February:

Lewis: A 1st winter Glaucous Gull has been hanging around Barvas for the last four days. 57 Barnacle Geese and a Scaup are at Loch Tiumpan. A ringtail Hen Harrier was seen at New Market.

23rd February:

South Uist: A drake Green-winged Teal was seen near Hebridean Jewellery today.

22nd February:

North Uist: 3 Goldfinch along the North Uist causeway today.

21st February:

Benbecula: 2 Goldfinch were at Market Stance this morning.

South Uist: 28 Whooper Swans, 19 Goldeneye and a Coot are on Loch Grogarry. 3 Brent Geese flew south passed Rubha Ardvule.

20th February:

Lewis: An adult Glaucous Gull is at Bragar. 30 White-fronted Geese are at Loch Urghag, Arnol and a Snow Bunting is at Brue.

North Uist: A 1st winter Rook is at Carnach.

Benbecula: 2 male and a female Scaup plus 3 pairs of Gadwall are on Coot Loch. 2 male Scaup and 20 White-fronted Geese are on Loch Fada.

South Uist: A Water Rail is still visiting a garden daily at Carnan.

19th February:

North Uist: 40+ Snow Buntings and 5 Goldfinch are on Balemore machair plus 6 pale-bellied Brent Geese are on the shore line there.

18th February:

Lewis: 12 Waxwings were seen heading west over Garrabost today.

Benbecula: 3 female Scaup and 3 pair of Gadwall are on Coot Loch. 20 White-fronted Geese were on Loch Mor and a Pied Wagtail was at Borve Point.

South Uist: 10 White-fronted Geese were at Kilpheder as well as 130 Twite on the machair and 225 Bar-tailed Godwits on the shore there.

17th February:

Lewis: A Snowy Owl is at the west end of Brue until 5:40 pm when it flew off towards Loch Barvas.

Benbecula: 7 Goldfinch are at Hacklet.

South Uist: 104 White-fronted Geese are on the Range near Kilaulay. A Pied Wagtail was in North Bay and another was at Ardivachar.

16th February:

North Uist: 10 Linnets are at Balemore whilst 38 Snow Buntings and a Pied Wagtail are on the machair there. 6 pale-bellied Brent Geese are on the shore line between Kyles Paible and Balemore. A Pink-footed Goose is at Loch Sandary and a Woodcock was seen at Claddach Vallay.

South Uist: 3 Goldfinch are at Askernish.

15th February:

Benbecula: 6 Scaup (2 female and 4 males) and 2 pair of Gadwall are on Coot Loch.

South Uist: A Pied Wagtail is in North Bay. Good numbers of Gannets are passing today with 63 seen in 15 minutes heading north passed Ardivachar around mid-day. A Water Rail and Goldfinch are at Askernish.

14th February:

Lewis: 13 Black-throated Divers were in Loch Erisort today and a near adult Glaucous Gull was at Labost / Bragar.

North Uist: A Little Egret was on Loch na Reivil, Hougharry and a female Pintail is at Aird an Runair. The female Pochard is still on Loch Skealtar.

Benbecula: A Pied Wagtail is at Liniclate. 5 Scaup (3 female and 2 males) and 2 pairs of Gadwall are on Coot Loch.

13th February:

Lewis: The female Black Redstart was seen again at Lews Castle, Stornoway today.

North Uist: 12 Linnets are at Balemore and 5 Brent Geese are on the shore between Balemore and Kyles Paible.

12th February:

North Uist: A Pink-footed Goose was at Balemore this morning.

11th February:

Sound of Harris: 126 Great Northern Divers and 17 Slavonian Grebe were seen from the ferry from Leverburgh - Berneray this morning.

North Uist: 2 female Goosanders were on Loch Skealtar this morning.

Benbecula: 2 female Scaup and 3 pairs of Gadwall are on Coot Loch.

10th February:

Lewis: A Great Crested Grebe and 3 female / immature Velvet Scoters were in Broad Bay off Aignish and later more distantly off Mealabost. Also in Broad Bay there were a minimum of 425 Great Northern Divers (plus 48 south of the Braigh); 15 Red-throated Divers, 890 Eider, and 132 Common Scoter, 180 Long-tailed Duck and 16 Slavonian Grebe (off Tong and Coll). 2 Black-throated Divers, 134 Long-tailed Ducks and a Slavonian Grebe were south of the Braigh. The female Black Redstart is still at Lews Castle and at least 8 Goldfinch were in the castle grounds. 4 Scaup and 50 Barnacle Geese were at Loch Tiumpan this morning.

Marine Sightings: 6 Porpoise were seen off Gress and 1 off Mealabost in Broad Bay, Lewis today.

9th February:

Harris: 2 male Surf Scoters and a female / immature Velvet Scoter were in the Sound of Taransay along with 127 Great Northern Divers, 18 Slavonian Grebes and 78 Common Scoter.

Sound of Harris: 76 Barnacle Geese were on Ensay.

North Uist: A female Pochard is on Loch Skealtar, near Lochmaddy.

Marine Sightings: 2 Porpoise were in the Sound of Harris off Northton.

8th February:

Lewis: 6 Long-tailed Tits were in Lews Castle grounds today close to the college. 5 Bramblings are still coming to feeders in Willowglen, Stornoway.

North Uist: A Lapland Bunting and 32 Snow Buntings were on the machair at Balemore today. 5 Brent Geese were on the shore between Kyles Paible and Balemore. A juvenile Brent Goose was with around 800 - 1,000 Barnacle Geese at Balemore. 

7th February:

Lewis: At Barvas a female Goosander was on Loch Barvas today and a female Common Scoter was on the sea.

North Uist: 4 Goldfinch were at Carinish today.

South Uist: A Coot and 13 Goldeneye are on West Loch Ollay. 3 Fieldfare and 2 Woodcock are on the west side of Thatharsal.

Insects: 3 Acleris hyemana were trapped at South Glendale last night.

6th February:

Lewis: 37 White-fronted Geese were at Arnol.

South Uist: A Woodcock was seen in Druidibeg plantation this afternoon.

Insects: A Dotted Border moth was trapped at South Glendale last night.

5th February:

North Uist: A Pink-footed Goose was at Loch Sandary and at least 60 Corn Buntings and 8 Goldfinch were around Balemore. 13 Goldfinch were seen at Carinish.

South Uist: A Water Rail was seen at Askernish today.

Insects: 15 Winter Moths were seen on the windows of a house at Gramsdale this evening.

4th February:

South Uist: A 1st winter Iceland Gull was on the beach at Kilpheder this afternoon.

Marine Sightings: At least 2 Bottle-nosed Dolphins were feeding off Howmore / Peninerine, South Uist early this afternoon.

3rd February:

North Uist: 2 female Pintail, a female Shoveler and 700 Barnacle Geese are at Aird an Runair. 35 Snow Buntings are at Balranald and 13 are on the machair at Balemore. A Little Egret was at Hosta today.

South Uist: A Pied Wagtail was at Carnan this morning.

2nd February:

Benbecula: 16 Snow Buntings are at Aird. A male Scaup and male Gadwall are on Coot Loch. A Wood Pigeon was seen at Liniclate.

1st February:

North Uist: The drake Green-winged Teal is still on Loch Sandary. A Little Egret is at Hosta. A single Snow Bunting was seen in a flock of Twite at Balranald. 3 Goldfinch were in Bayhead today.

Benbecula: A male Scaup is on Coot Loch and a pair of Gadwall are on Loch Fada.
