31st December: Happy New Year and Best Wishes for 2010 Lewis: 12 Brambling were on the feeders in Willowglen, Stornoway today. South Uist: A Woodcock was at Ardivachar. 30th December: Lewis: There is a Water Rail in Gress; 3 Woodcock between Bragar and Barvas and 6 White-fronted Geese at Arnol. 29th December: Lewis: There are 4 Pink-footed Geese at Milkinghall. At Tong there was a flock of 20 Snow Buntings and 12 Twite. Benbecula: A Jack Snipe was along the shoreline by Torlum machair. A Woodcock was nearby at Borve Point along with 129 Mallard, 3 Gadwall and 12 Shoveler. South Uist: A Red Kite flew north-east over Drimsdale machair at 11:15 this morning. 2 adult White-fronted Geese were in Stilligarry. 28th December: Lewis: A female Blackcap was in Leurbost today. South Uist: A Little Egret is on the Howmore River. 2 Woodcock and a Water Rail are at Drimsdale. 21 Whooper Swans, 3 Coot, 11 Goldeneye, 115 Teal, 105 Mallard and a Shoveler are on Grogarry Loch.
27th December: Lewis: A 1st winter Glaucous Gull was at Loch Arnol and 9 White-fronted Geese were inland from there. A dead Little Auk was seen being eaten by a Great Black-backed Gull at Barvas beach. South Uist: A Little Egret, 2 Goldeneye and around 50 Tufted Duck are on the Howmore River. A Woodcock was in the dunes at Howmore and at least 1 Water Rail was in a drain to Loch Stilligarry at Drimsdale. Marine Sightings: 2 Bottle-nosed Dolphins were feeding off-shore between Howmore and Peninerine this morning.
26th December: North Uist: 28 pale-bellied Brent Geese and a Woodcock were at Traigh Eachkamish, Baleshare today. South Uist: An adult Iceland Gull was on the Range at LA2 today. 24 Whooper Swans flew south at Drimsdale this morning and there is Fieldfare there. 3 Woodcock were on Thatharsal and a Jack Snipe was nearby at Loch a Phuirt-ruaid. 4 redpolls flew over Howbeg. 25th December: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year North Uist: 3 Snow Buntings were seen on Berneray today. 11 Goldfinch were at Clachan. 24th December: Lewis: A Snowy Owl is at Cradhlastadh. 2 Siskins by Stornoway golf club. 2 redpoll species were in North Tolsta. North Uist: A Lapland Bunting and 6 Snow Buntings are on the machair at Balemore. The Chiffchaff is still at Scotvein. South Uist: A Water Rail, 15 Goldfinch and 2 Fieldfare are at Carnan. 23rd December: Lewis: 3 Bramblings by Stornoway golf club. North Uist: 4 Snow Buntings were on the machair at Balemore. A Chiffchaff was at Scotvein, Grimsay today. South Uist: A Water Rail was heard at Drimsdale and one was in a garden at Askernish. 12 Snow Buntings and around 400 Twite on the machair near Ardivachar today.
22nd December: North Uist: A Rook was at Scotvein, Grimsay for most of the afternoon today. Benbecula: There are 2 Gadwall and 18 Shoveler on Coot Loch today. South Uist: 20 Whooper Swans and 2 Coot are on Loch Stilligarry. 21st December: South Uist: 20 Goldfinch were at Kilpheder today. 20th December: Lewis: A Glaucous Gull was seen at Bragar. Benbecula: 17 White-fronted Geese were on Loch Mor. South Uist: A Woodcock was at North Loch Eynort. 3 Fieldfare were near the turning for Loch Eynort and 1 was in South Glendale. 2 Barnacle Geese were near Loch Tornish. 19th December: Benbecula: A male Scaup is on Coot Loch. Marine sightings: A dead White-beaked Dolphin is in Stinky Bay.
18th December: North Uist: A Little Egret was at Bayhead this afternoon. South Uist: A 1st winter male Scaup is on Loch Rog. 2 Woodcock were in Druidibeg plantation. 17th December: Benbecula: The male Scaup is still on Coot Loch. 16th December: Lewis: 19 White-fronted Geese are at Arnol. Benbecula: A male Scaup and 21 Coot are on Coot Loch. 15th December: Benbecula: The Firecrest is still at Gramsdale along with a Black Redstart, a Common Redpoll and 2 Woodcock. 14th December: Harris: 2 male Surf Scoters, 58 Common Scoters and 12 Slavonian Grebe in the Sound of Taransay today. Also a pale-bellied Brent Goose was at Luskentyre.2 Snow Buntings were on the golf course at Scarista. South Uist: A Little Egret was by the South Ford causeway this morning. Insects: A Winter Moth was trapped at South Glendale last night. Marine Sightings: At least 3 Porpoise were in the Sound of Taransay today.
13th December: Lewis: 5 Scaup are still on Loch Tiumpan along with 14 Barnacle Geese and a female Gadwall. 451 Great Northern Divers were on Broad Bay today and another 32 were south of the Braigh. Also in Broad Bay: 1 Black-throated Diver, 34 Red-throated Divers, 19 Slavonian Grebe (12 off Tong and 7 from Coll) and 161 Common Scoter. 6 Snow Buntings were at Sulaisiadar. North Uist: A juvenile Brent Goose was seen with 700 Barnacle Geese at Loch Brusda along with 27 Whooper Swans, 325 Greylag Geese, a Coot and 11 Goldfinch. Benbecula: A Firecrest is at Gramsdale today. 17 White-fronted Geese and 18 Shoveler are on Loch Mor. A Slavonian Grebe is in Stinky Bay. South Uist: 2 Slavonian Grebe were off Ardivachar today. Marins Sightings: At least 6 Porpoise were in Broad Bay today visible from Sulaisiadar.
12th December: Lewis: 17 Barnacle Geese, 5 Scaup and 120 Tufted Duck on Loch Tiumpan today. Sound of Harris: 55 Great Northern Divers, 10 Red-throated Divers, 3 Black-throated Divers, 196 Long-tailed Duck and 9 Slavonian Grebe from the ferry (Berneray - Leverburgh). South Uist: 12 White-fronted Geese were at Kilpheder and a female Pintail is on Loch Hallan. 11th December: North Uist: A Jackdaw was at Bayhead today. Benbecula: A male and female Scaup are on Coot Loch. 10th December: Lewis: The Black Redstart is still at Tong Beach. Barra: 2 female Common Scoters and a Slavonian Grebe are in the Sound of Barra. A female Hen Harrier flew over Glenn. 9th December:
8th December: Insects: A single Angle Shades was caught last night in South Glendale. 7th December: South Uist: A Chiffchaff was at North Loch Eynort today. 6th December: South Uist: 4 Brent Geese are on the South Ford between Carnan and Eochar. A Little Egret was on the small pool by the Hebridean Jewellery junction at Eochar. 5th December: Lewis: There is a Black Redstart and 25 Snow Buntings at Tong beach today. A Linnet is at Tong Farm and at least 3 Hen Harriers are on moorland around Stornoway. A female Goosander is at Loch Barvas. North Uist: 2 Lapland Buntings, around 20 Snow Buntings and over 700 Skylarks are on the Balemore / Knockintorran machair. There is also a Jackdaw in the area and 19 Whooper Swans. South Uist: A Little Egret is on Grogarry Loch and a Snow Bunting is at Drimsdale.
4th December: North Uist: A Little Egret was at Loch Sandary this afternoon and a Pink-footed Goose was with Greylags nearby. A juv / 1st winter Glaucous Gull and a Jackdaw are at Balemore.
3rd December: Benbecula: A male Scaup is on Coot Loch. South Uist: 2 female Common Scoters are in the Sound of Barra, near Fuday. 600+ Wigeon and around 200 Teal are in the north-west corner of Loch Bee. At least 52 White-fronted Geese are to the west of Loch Bee. 2nd December: Lewis: A Siskin was seen by golf club in Stornoway today. Marine Sightings: A dead Porpoise was on the beach at Baleshare yesterday and the remains of a toothed whale was seen today.
1st December: Benbecula: A Little Egret was on the South Ford at Creagorry before flying off towards South Uist this morning. |
