31st January: North Uist: A drake Green-winged Teal is still on Loch Sandary. Around 1,000 Barnacle Geese are in the Kyles Paible / Balemore area. South Uist: 6 Goldfinch were at Drimsdale this morning. 30th January: North Uist: A Pied Wagtail was at Bayhead. South Uist: 5 Goldeneye were at the south end of Loch Bee today. 2 Fieldfare were on the road by Caireasbhal and 1 was in South Glendale. A Snow Bunting flew over the bay at South Glendale and at least 6 Goldfinch were at the Pollochar this morning. 29th January: North Uist: 12 Goldfinch were at Carinish today. 28th January: North Uist: A Little Egret was in a drain at Balemore before relocating to Loch Sandary. 7 Linnets were also at Balemore, plus 4 Goldfinch and 5 Snow Buntings were on the machair there. South Uist: 18 Scaup were on Loch Bee today. 27th January: Benbecula: 2 Woodcock were at Torlum this morning. South Uist: 14 Goldeneye were at the north end of Loch Bee this afternoon. 26th January: Benbecula: A male and female Scaup are on Coot Loch. 25th January: North Uist: Flocks of 12 and 5 Goldfinch were at Carinish today. South Uist: 11 Linnets are on the machair at Drimsdale. 24th January: North Uist: 92 Great Northern Divers and 17 Red-throated Divers were around Berneray today plus 30 Common Scoters were off the west side. A Coot and female Scaup were on Loch Bhrusda and a Fieldfare was close by. At least 9 Snow Buntings were on Borve machair, Berneray. A Chiffchaff was in the plantation at Trumisgarry. South Uist: A Fieldfare was at the base of Rueval this morning. Marine Sightings: A Porpoise was in the Sound of Pabbay. 23rd January: Barra: 55 Great Northern Diver and 42 Long-tailed Duck are in the Sound of Barra. A female Common Scoter is off Eoligarry, east of Fiaraidh. 78 Barnacle Geese were on Fiaraidh. Just 4 pale-bellied Brent Geese were at Eoligarry. The following Goldfinch were seen today: 8 at Eoligarry, 8 on Vatersay and 2 at Gleann. A single Coot is on Loch Tangusdale. 22nd January: North Uist: The drake Green-winged Teal is still on Loch Sandary. 2 Goldfinch, 5 Linnets and 35 Snow Buntings are at Balemore. 14 Goldfinch are at Carinish. South Uist: 8 Goldfinch are at Drimsdale.
21st January: South Uist: 100+ Grey Plover and 630+ Dunlin were on the South Ford this morning. 20th January: South Uist: A female Gadwall is at the south end of Loch Bee. 6 Fieldfare are near Garrynamonie. 19th January: Benbecula: 2 male and a female Gadwall are on Loch Fada. 18th January: South Uist: 2 Coot are on Grogarry Loch. 3 Fieldfare are on Rueval this evening.
17th January: Lewis: A Black Redstart was seen in the Lews Castle Grounds again today, feeding on the walls of the castle. 2 Goldfinch and 2 Siskin were at Marybank Lodge and 4 Bramblings are still in Willowglen. A Grey Plover, 5 Knot, 40 Bar-tailed Godwits and a Pied Wagtail were at Tong today. North Uist: A drake Green-winged Teal and pale-bellied Brent Goose are at Loch Sandary. 10 Linnet are at Balemore and 25 Snow Buntings are on the machair there. A Little Egret was on Loch Grogarry. A male Scaup is on Loch Bhrusda, Berneray. Benbecula: 48 Long-tailed Ducks were around Stinky Bay. A Woodcock was at Gramsdale. South Uist: 6 Goldfinch are at Drimsdale. A female Pintail was at Ardivachar. 16th January: Lewis: A Blackcap was seen in Urquhart Gardens, Stornoway today. Harris: A Water Rail and immature Glaucous Gull were at Northton today. South Uist: A lone Barnacle Goose is at Kilpheder. 4 Snow Buntings are at Ardvule. A Fieldfare was in South Glendale and 4 Woodcock were flushed from the road side here after dark. 15th January: Benbecula: A female Pintail was in Stinky Bay this afternoon and a male Scaup was on Loch Fada. 12th January: Lewis: A near adult Glaucous Gull, 16 Goldeneye and a Pink-footed Goose are at Loch Barvas. A female Hen Harrier is seen around Brue / Barvas most days recently. Benbecula: A male Scaup was on the sea with Tufted Duck south of Stinky Bay this afternoon. South Uist: A drake Green-winged Teal is in the north bay at Ardvule. 11th January: North Uist: A Jack Snipe and Woodcock were at Carinish. South Uist: Woodcock were seen at Stilligarry and Ardivachar today. 10th January: Lewis: 7 Brambling and a male Blackcap in Willowglen, Stornoway today. North Uist: A Jack Snipe was at Carinish again today. 3 Snow Buntings are on the machair at Balemore and a Coot is on Loch nam Feithean. Benbecula: A Woodcock was at the road side at Gramsdale this morning.
9th January: North Uist: A Black-tailed Godwit and Jack Snipe were at Aird an Runair. Woodcock were seen at Paiblesgarry and Scotvein, Grimsay. A Chiffchaff is still intermittently visiting a garden at Scotvein. Benbecula: A Woodcock was seen at Liniclate and a Song Thrush was watched eating winkles on the shore line there in the same manner as they might eat garden snails i.e. bashing them on an anvil. South Uist: A Pied Wagtail and Woodcock were at Rubha Thornais. 126 Grey Plover were in North Bay. A Woodcock was at Druidibeg and another was seen at Drimsdale. 2 Fieldfare were at Loch Carnan today. 8th January: Lewis: 8 Brambling and 8 Siskin on feeders in Willowglen, Stornoway. 2 Black Redstarts and 9 Long-tailed Tits were in Lews Castle Grounds today. A Black-tailed Godwit, a Woodcock and a Fieldfare were at Steinish. North Uist: 2 female Goosanders are on Loch Ciste, Lochmaddy. A pale-bellied Brent Goose is with 400 Barnacle Geese at Knockintorran. 23 Snow Buntings are on the machair at Balemore. A Jackdaw was at Claddach Vallay. A Little Egret was in Hoglan Bay, Hougharry. South Uist: At least 50 Goldeneye and 5 Scaup are on Loch Bee amongst other ducks and swans although the amount of open water is shrinking every day. A Woodcock and Snow Bunting were at Ardivachar. 7th January: Harris: The 2nd winter Glaucous Gull is still on the beach at Northton today. North Uist: A Jack Snipe and Water Rail are at Carinish. Benbecula: 105 Mallard, 4 Shoveler and a Coot in Stinky Bay this morning. A Jack Snipe was reported close to the War memorial. 6th January: North Uist: A Water Rail is in a garden at Grenitote. Benbecula: 2 Shoveler are in Stinky Bay. South Uist: A Woodcock had a narrow escape from a hunting Hen Harrier near Stilligarry this afternoon.
5th January: Lewis: A Snowy Owl was seen again at Crowlista this morning. Harris: A 2nd winter Glaucous Gull was at Northton today. South Uist: A Woodcock was seen at Drimsdale today and 1 was seen in the maintenance compound at Rangehead last night. 4th January: Lewis: A Little Auk was seen near the Butt of Lewis and 3 Gannets were off-shore. 16 Snow Buntings were on Europie machair. A pair of Pintail were on Loch Stiapabhat. A Hen Harrier was at Brue. South Uist: Around 350 Tufted Ducks, 70+ Goldeneye and 17 Scaup are on Loch Bee. A Woodcock was seen close to the causeway across Loch Bee. A Water Rail was taken into care at North Bay last but unfortunately died this morning. 3rd January: Lewis: A Water Rail was found in a barn at Tong this morning. South Uist: 2 Woodcock were flushed from the west slopes of Hecla. 1st Janaury: Happy New Year Benbecula: 2 male Scaup were on the sea off Borve along with 5 Coot. South Uist: The Little Egret was seen again on the Howmore River in the afternoon. A Fieldfare was by the main road at the junction to Loch Eynort. Water Rails were seen at Drimsdale, Carnan and Bornish. 2 Moorhen and a Woodcock were also in a garden at Carnan. 3 Coot are on Grogarry Loch. |
