15th June

North Uist: Water Rail Carinish.

South Uist: Spotted Flycatcher South Glendale.

  Poplar Hawkmoth at Drimsdale, South Uist.

14th June

Lewis: a red male Common Rosefinch at Gress.

Common Hawker at North Loch Eynort (John Kemp).

Other: Basking Shark seen close inshore off North Glendale, South Uist.

13th June

South Uist: Siskin North Loch Eynort. Spotted Flycatcher South Glendale.

Short-eared Owl (John Kemp)

11th June

South Uist: Sand Martin Ardvule and Storm Petrel off-shore. 8 Painted Lady's here too.

10th June

Vatersay: male Surf Scoter off-shore today.

Butterflies Painted Lady butterflies widespread and common. Red Admiral at Griminish pier, North Uist.

9th June

Lewis: Bufflehead Loch na Muilne, Arnol. Wood Warbler at Steinis plantation.

South Uist: Osprey over Loch Eynort around mid-day.

Insects: Large Heath at Loch Eynort, South Uist and at least 10 Small Heath and a Common Blue at South Glendale, South Uist. Lots of Painted Lady's around with at least 40 at Balranald this afternoon.

8th June

Lewis: Bufflehead on Loch na Muilne near Arnol.

Insects: At least 11 Painted Lady's on Borve / Torlum machair this evening.

Other: Hebridean Marsh Orchid in flower at Newton and what appears to be the same species at Sollas, North Uist. If the latter site is confirmed as holding the orchid this will be a significant expansion of their known range.

6th June

St. Kilda: Snowy Owl

Benbecula: 1st yr Iceland Gull Stinky Bay. Red-necked Phalarope on Coot Loch along with female Wigeon with brood of 9 ducklings.

South Uist: female Blackcap Druidibeg Plantation.

5th June

Benbecula: Sand Martin Coot Loch

Moths and butterflies: Small Heath butterfly at North Loch Eynort plus Brown Silver Line (first record for the islands for this moth was just last year).

Short-eared Owl Claddach Baleshare.

4th June

North Uist: female Marsh Harrier Balranald.

Benbecula: Siskin flew over Nunton today.

Insects: Large White today at Nunton. Blue-tailed Damseflies at Borve point, Benbecula. Light traps at Nunton produced: Knotgrass, 4 White Ermine, 2 Flame Shoulder, 1 Clouded-bordered Brindle, 1 Silver Y and an Elephant Hawkmoth.

3rd June

Sula Sgeir and North Rona: Black-browed Albatross on Sula Sgeir and male Lapland Bunting on North Rona.

Lewis: Little Stint Loch Ordais. Glaucous Gull Arnol. Grasshopper Warbler, Whitethroat, 4 Chiffchaffs, 2 Blackcaps, 3 Spotted Flycatchers and 4 or 5 Siskin in the Castle Grounds, Stornoway.

North Uist: Curlew Sandpiper and 1st yr Glaucous Gull Loch Paible. Snowy Owl Grenitote. Adult Iceland Gull Bayhead.

Benbecula: Black-tailed Godwit and brood of Shovelers Loch Mor.

South Uist: Spotted Flycatcher and Whitethroat South Glendale.

1st yr Glaucous Gull (Steve Duffield).

2nd June

Lewis: 2nd calendar year Iceland Gull and Curlew Sandpiper Borve.

North Uist: Red-necked Phalarope, Spotted Redshank and dark-bellied Brent Goose at Hougarry.

Benbecula: 2 Sandwich Terns south through Stinky Bay this evening and 1st yr Glaucous Gull there. Sand Martin and 20 Swallows Coot Loch.

South Uist: Wood Pigeon Eochar.

1st June

St. Kilda: Spotted Flycatcher, Swift and House Martin.

Lewis: female Goosander and Little Stint at Loch Ordais.

Benbecula: What appears to be an Ashy-headed Wagtail (Motacilla flava cinereocapilla) was singing along the beach at Torlum / Borve.  Thanks to Tristan ap Reinhallt and Willem en Sija van Rijswijk for their help with identifying this bird. South Uist: Rose-coloured Starling Peninerine.

North Uist: 4 white-phase Snow Geese of unknown origin flew west at Balranald this afternoon.
