31st October: Benbecula: juvenile Glaucous Gull at Borve Point. South Uist: Grey Phalarope still at Peninerine and 5 Great Skuas off-shore here. 122+ Whooper Swans on Loch Tornish. Other: Thousands of small, orange jellyfish have been washed up in the last day or two. 30th October: South Uist: 60 Purple Sandpipers at Ardivachar including colour-ringed individual. 80+ Redwing and 2 Fieldfare at Grogarry Lodge. 25+ Redwing and 2 Chiffchaff at Kinloch. 30+ Redwing and Woodcock at Druidibeg. Grey Phalarope at Peninerine. Fumlar on the orad at Drimsdale today.
29th October: Lewis: Sabine's Gull passed Labost. Leach's Petrel off Brue. North Uist: Female Ring-necked Duck Loch Eaval. Female Ring-necked Duck Loch na Faoileige. At Griminish Point today (7:55 - 11:35) 2 Grey Phalarope, 9 Pomarine Skuas, 3 Great Skuas, 578 Kittiwake, 2 Little Auk, 40 Barnacle Geese, 11 Brent Geese and a Gadwall - all heading south. Great White Egret reported today from Lochmaddy. 28th October: Lewis: Red-rumped Swallow Port of Ness. Berneray: 500 Barnacle Geese Borve plus 2 Lapland Buntings, 350+ Twite. North Uist: Great White Egret showing well at Oban Trumisgarry. Also around 20 Siskin in the area. 4 Common Redpoll at Clachan Farm. Female Ring-necked Duck, 2 1st w male Scaup, 17 Whooper Swans and a Wheatear at Loch na Faoileige. South Uist: Yellow-browed Warbler Bornish. 3 Woodcock, 10 Siskin and 6 Fieldfare Druidibeg. 40 Siskin, Woodcock and 2 Brambling North Loch Eynort. Brindled Ochre moth trapped last night at Drimsdale.
27th October: Lewis: Swallow at Barvas. 21 Whooper Swans at Coll. South Uist: 5 Pink-footed Geese amongst the Greylags on the Range at Eochar. Grey Phalarope at the mouth of the Howmore River this evening and a Snow Bunting nearby on the beach at Drimsdale. 7 Siskin at Loch Carnan and 2 at Drimsdale. Red Admiral in the Castle Grounds today.
26th October: Lewis: 40 Siskin in lighthouse compound, Butt of Lewis plus another 100 around Ness. 2 Snow Buntings Butt of Lewis. Blackcap Lionel. North Uist: Great White Egret reported from Oban Trumisgarry today. South Uist: 2 American Golden Plovers at West Gerinish this morning. Female Blackcap at Grogarry Lodge and Druidibeg. 30+ Sisikin at Drimsdale. Snow Bunting, Great Skua and Whimbrel at Ardvule. Woodcock at Druidibeg. 6 Silver Y feeding on Escalonia at Askernish.
25th October: Lewis: Bluethroat at Brue this evening. Benbecula: 3 Snow Buntings Borve Point and 20 Siskin over the machair at Torlum. Adult Arctic Tern off Balivanich. 15 Whooper Swans on Loch Mor and 61 Whoopers on Loch Dun Mhurchaidh. South Uist: Juvenile Arctic Tern Ardivachar and 10 White-fronted Geese in off the sea at North Bay. 24th October: Lewis: Swallow hawking over the seaweed on the beach at Barvas this evening. Siskins: 40 Sandwick, 30 Gress, 200 in Garynahine / Achmore area, 12 Brue, 200+ Castle Grounds. Blackcap and 7 Brambling Laxdale. 2 Grey Wagtails in the Castle Grounds and 1 over Stornoway this evening. South Uist: juvenile American Golden Plover at West Gerinish, also Snow Bunting there. Male Pintail, juvenile Arctic Tern and Snow Bunting at Ardivachar. Yellow-browed Warbler and Blackcap at Druidibeg. Plenty of Siskins still moving through with 45+ over Drimsdale this evening, 25 at Askernish and others reported from Druidibeg and North Loch Eynort. Chiffchaff and Garden Warbler at South Glendale. Red Admiral at North Loch Eynort and Druidibeg.
23rd October: Lewis: Waxwing in Stornoway before flying off towards Castle Grounds. 150 Siskin in Castle Grounds. Sound of Harris (from ferry): Female Scaup, 46 Great Northern Divers, 1 Black-throated Diver, 450+ Shag and a Merlin. South Uist: Juvenile Arctic Tern at Peninerine and Ardivachar. Chiffchaff at Drimsdale. Chiffchaff and 40+ Siskin at Howmore. 21st October: Lewis: 190 Siskin Castle Grounds, plus 2 Chiffchaff North Uist: 155 Siskin scattered around the island. 27+ at Kallin, Grimsay South Uist: Siskins: 170 North Loch Eynort, 50 at Druidibeg, 10 Grogarry, 8 Snishival, 6 Bornish, 4 Howmore, 4 West Gerinish and 20 South Glendale. House Martin Loch Eynort / Ormiclate junction. 20th October: Siskin invasion Lewis: 300+ Siskin in the Castle Grounds, Stornoway. 98 in north-west Lewis. 20 at Port of Ness. Also at Port of Ness flava Wagtail, Chiffchaff and Blackcap. North Uist: Lesser Whitethroat Carinish. Lesser Whitethroat, Blackcap, Chiffchaff and 15 Siskin Langass. Whinchat and 7 Siskin Scolpaig. 750+ Barnacle Geese Loch Paible. South Uist: Juvenile American Golden Plover Ormiclate. Stock Dove Grogarry Lodge - flew off towards Stilligarry. Yellow-browed Warbler Bornish.
19th October: Lewis: 83 Whooper Swans Loch Barvas. South Uist: Little Bunting South Glendale along with Grey Wagtail and 11 Siskin. 18th October: Benbecula: Buff-bellied Pipit feeding along the shore line at Torlum, just east of Borve Point.
South Uist: 13 Siskin Howmore. 34 Redwing Snishival. 30 Redwing South Glendale. 17th October: Lewis: Yellow-browed Warbler at Brue. North Uist: Sooty Shearwater, Grey Phalarope and juvenile Pomarine Skua passed Griminish Point this morning. Nearby at Callernish Barred Warbler, Willow Warbler and Siskin. Brent Goose, 400 Barnacle Geese and Lapland Bunting on the machair at Berneray. South Uist: 3 Grey Phalaropes in north bay at Ardvule. Juvenile American Golden Plover at West Gerinish. Juvenile American Golden Plover also Ormiclate Castle area although mobile. Juvenile Curlew Sandpiper North Bay. Chiffchaff released from Prawn Pots at Drimsdale, Blackcap South Glendale. 5 Siskin Grogarry Lodge. 15 Brent Geese heading west throught South Ford from Carnan where there was also a Siskin.
16th October: Lewis: 3,250 Barnacle Geese mostly south-west passed Brue. 2 imm. Little Gulls off Brue this evening. Around 300 Barnacle Geese over Loch Erisort this morning- many heading west. Wheatear on main road Lewis / Harris border. North Uist: Sea-watching from Griminish Point (08:05 - 15:05): 122 Pomarine Skuas (25 juveniles), 4 Arctic Skuas and 3 Great Skuas; 7 Leach's Petrels, adult Sabine's Gull; 2,439 Kittiwakes, 26 Sooty Shearwaters, 2 Manx Shearwaters, at least 10 Grey Phalaropes; 42 Barnacle Geese, 73 Brent Geese, 7 Whooper Swans, 11 Wigeon, 9 Teal, 3 Tufted Duck, 120 Great Northern Divers. Also Jack Snipe and Snow Bunting present. Wheatear just south of Lochmaddy. South Uist: Sea-watching from Ardvule (8:30 - 11:30): 51 Great Northern Divers, 2 Leach's Petrels, 8 Pomarine Skuas, 1 Arctic Skua, 1stw Little Gull, 6 Whooper Swans, 124 Barnacle Geese, 143 Brent Geese, 3 Scaup and 7 Grey Phalarope.
South Uist: 15th October: Lewis: 8 Goosander Loch Liurbost. Juvenile Pale-bellied Brent Goose at Coll, plus Wheatear there. South Uist: 107 Great Northern Divers passed Ardvule (10:00 - 13:00) plus 3 juvenile Arctic Terns and an adult Pomarine Skua. 3 juvenile Curlew Sandpipers and Little Stint at Balgarva. Juvenile Curlew Sandpiper at North Bay. Yellow-browed Warbler and 3 Brambling at North Loch Eynort. American Golden Plover reported from Bornish in the evening. 14th October: Lewis: Juvenile Glaucous Gull at Siadar and Ness. Jack Snipe also at Ness. Male Goosander and male Pintail Loch Barvas. Hybird Scaup x Tufted Duck Loch Branahuie. 13th October: Lewis: Juvenile Glaucous Gull and 2 Black-tailed Godwits on Ness machair. 12th October: Lewis: Belated news of a Least Sandpiper at the Butt of Lewis. South Uist: Great White Egret reported from various locations in South Uist today including Stoneybridge, Loch Eynort (Martin Scott) and near Ardvule (Christine Johnson). Barra: Yellow-browed Warbler at Brevig, plus Willow Warbler and Blackcap there. Dipper (brown-bellied) along the burn at Brevig and then presumably the same bird east side of Castle Bay. Other species: Wheatear, 37 Redwing, 47 Fieldfare, 2 Brambling, Siskin, 2 Grey Wagtails and 9 Goldfinch.
11th October: Harris: Surf Scoter in Sound of Taransay. Yellow-browed Warbler Luskentyre. North Uist: 3 Sooty Shearwaters passed Aird an Runair. Benbecula: juvenile American Golden Plover west side of Loch Mor, just north of Calley Timber. Lapland Bunting over Loch Mor. South Uist: Little Stint at Ardvule.
10th October: Lewis: Garden Warbler and Chiffchaff Barvas. juvenile Little Stint Loch Barvas. Berneray: 450 Barnacle Geese and juvenile pale-bellied Brent Goose. South Uist: Male Blackcap North Loch Eynort and Chiffchaff Drimsdale. juvenile Little Stint and 3 Black-tailed Godwits Ardvule. 22 Whooper Swans Loch Bornish. 9th October: North Uist: Yellow-browed Warbler Carinish. South Uist: Yellow-browed Warbler South Glendale. Lesser Whitethroat Druidibeg Plantation. Pied Flycatcher and Chiffchaff Howmore. Willow Warbler North Loch Eynort. 2 Little Stint Balgarva. Little Stint, 2 Black-tailed Godwits and 6 Barnacle Geese Ardvule. 280+ Barnacle Geese south over Drimsdale (17:15). Also a scattering of Redwings and Fieldfare. Blackap Carnan. Insects: Black Darter at Druidibeg. Small Tortoiseshell at Drimsdale.
8th October: Lewis: Lesser Whitethroat Shawbost, Lesser Whitethroat Borve Pottery. Juvenile Glaucous Gull Butt of Lewis. Pink-footed Geese on the move today with 808+ passing Liurbost (7:45 - 10:45) and 394 passing Gearraidh Bhaird (11:30 - 14:30). South Uist: Lesser Whitethroat South Glendale. 7th October: Harris: Red-breasted Flycatcher Tarbet. Lewis: 330 Barnacle Geese and 29 Whooper Swans passing over south of Liurbost (08:45 - 11:45). 12 Barnacle Geese, 308 Pink-footed Geese and 7 Whooper Swans over Arnish (13:05 - 16:05). 6 Fieldfare and Brambling in Castle Grounds. 5th October: South Uist: Curlew Sandpiper Hebridean Jewellery. 2 Long-tailed Ducks and female Common Scoter Peninerine. 4th October: Lewis: Little Stint Barvas. South Uist: 4 Lapland Buntings and Curlew Sandpiper on Drimsdale machair. Chiffchaff at Drimsdale. Lesser Whitethroat at Druidibeg and Grey Wagtail at North Loch Eynort. Curlew Sandpiper Hebridean Jewellery. Juvenile Ring-necked Duck Loch Dobhrain. Barra: Red-breasted Flycatcher. Insects: 2 Black Darters today at Howmore.
3rd October: South Uist: juvenile Curlew Sandpiper Hebridean Jewellery. 20 Black-tailed Godwits opposite Loch an t-Saile and 4 along southern edge of Loch Bee. Pectoral Sandpiper southern edge of Loch Bee and 8 White-fronted Geese. Curlew Sandpiper at Ardvule. Barra: Yellow-browed Warbler Castle Bay. Moths: 9 species caught last night between three traps: Carnan, Drimsdale and Carinish: Red Line Quaker, Mouse Moth, Angle shades, Small Wainscot, Ear moth sp, Rosy Rustic, Crescent, Large Wainscot and Dark Arches. 2nd October: Berneray: 3 Lapland Buntings on the machair. North Uist: Yellow-browed Warbler and Chiffchaff Lochmaddy. South Uist: juvenile Ring-necked Duck Loch Dobhrain. Barra: 2 Yellow-browed Warbler. 1st October: North Uist: 3 Lapland Buntings Balranald. South Uist: juvenile Ring-necked Duck Loch Dobhrain. Garden Warbler and Brambling South Glendale. Lapland Bunting on the Range. Barra: Red-breasted Flycatcher Northbay. Common Rosefinch Brevig.
