30th September:

Lewis: Snowy Owl at Aird Uig along with 35 Snow Buntings. 3 Brambling at Callanish.

Benbecula: Yellow-browed Warbler Peter's Port. 2 Black-tailed Godwits Coot Loch.

South Uist: Ring-necked Duck Loch Dobhrain. Lapland Bunting and Siskin over Druidibeg. Pied Flycatcher South Glendale. 10 Black-tailed Godwits Loch an t-Saile. Ruff Loch Bee.

29th September:

South Uist: Marsh Warbler just south of Howmore Post Office on lower slopes of Thatharsal, plus a Redwing. Yellow-browed Warbler and Lesser Whitethroat Snishival as well as Greenland Redpoll.

North Uist: Garden Warbler Lochmaddy.

28th September:

Lewis: Snowy Owl at Bru. American Golden Plover at Ness. Female Goosander at Loch Barvas plus juvenile Glaucous Gull. Juvenile Glaucous Gull at Knockaird.

South Uist: Yellow-browed Warbler at South Glendale plus Redwing. 2 Redwing at Druidibeg and 2 at North Loch Eynort. 2 Fieldfare at North Loch Eynort and 1 at Druidibeg. Lesser Whitethroat and Chiffchaff at Carnan. Lapland Bunting at Ardvule and 7 Brent Geese south passed the point.

27th September:

Lewis: Spotted Sandpiper on the beach at Bragar and ranging round to Loch Ordais. Ring Ouzel at Bru plus 12 Whooper Swans and 80 Barnacle Geese over this morning.

South Uist: Little Bunting reported from Carnan. Dotterel on Bornish Machair.

25th September:

Lewis: Juvenile Sabine's Gull on Shawbost beach. 550 Pink-footed Geese over Bru. Great Shearwater passed the Butt of Lewis. Snow Bunting and 1st winter Glaucous Gull at Port of Ness.

South Uist: Brambling at Carnan

24th September:

Lewis: Adult American Golden Plover and 3 Pectoral Sandpipers Ness plus 100 north-western Redpolls.

North Uist: Barid's Sandpiper reported from south of Loch Paible along strand line. 2 juvnile Sabine's Gulls, 12 Leach's Petrels, 1 Storm Petrel, 14 Sooty Shearwaters, 32 Brent Geese and 7 Wigeon passed Griminish Point. Also 3 Snow Buntings there.

South Uist: Sandwich Tern passed Ardvule

Northern Bottle-nosed Whale beached north of Callanish, eventually got free on the rising tide only to beach again later. Found dead the next day.

23rd September:

Lewis: Adult American Golden Plover and 3 Pectoral Sandpipers opposite Ness F.C. 4 Snow Buntings at the Butt.

South Uist: Juvenile Sabine's Gull, 4 Grey Phalaropes, 2 Leach's Petrels, 1 Storm Petrel, 26 Sooty Shearwaters and 2 Common Scoter passed Ardvule between 07:15 and 14:40.

22nd September:

South Uist: 188 Brent Geese at Ardvule. 46 Black-tailed Godwits, 2 Ruff and 3 Lapland Buntings on the Range.

21st September:

Lewis: Bairds Sandpiper seen at the Butt of Lewis plus adult American Golden Plover. 5 Great Shearwaters, 16 Sooty Shearwaters and Leach's Petrel passed the Butt of Lewis in 2.5 hours this afternoon.

North Uist: Grey Phalarope Loch Paible. Grey Wagtail and Blackcap Grenitote.

South Uist: Juvenile Sabine's Gull plus 2 Grey Phalaropes passed Ardvule (07:30 - 10:40).

Barra: Common Rosefinch North Bay and 2 Grey Wagtails Castle Bay.

20th September:

South Uist: Juvenile Sabine's Gull, 1 Leach's Petrel, 3 Grey Phalaropes and 4 Sooty Shearwaters passed Ardvule (07:05 - 12:00).

19th September:

Lewis: American Golden Plover Butt of Lewis (Birdguides). Snowy Owl Uig.

North Uist: 2 juvenile Little Stints at Loch Paible and 2 Lapland Buntings. Pied Flyctacher at Langass.

18th September:

North Uist: Juvenile Baird's Sandpiper at Loch Paible along with 2 juvenile Little Stints. 3 Lapland Buntings on Paible Machair.

17th September:

Lewis: 600 Pink-footed Geese east over Stornoway between 16:00 and 17:00.

South Uist: 130 Pink-footed Geese heading south off Howmore at 15:35. Also Corncrake in the dunes here. Another 80 Pink-footed Geese flew east over Loch Bee and appeared to be coming down on the far side of the loch at 19:00.

16th September:

Lewis: More Pink-footed Geese passing over north Lewis this morning with 200+ seen before 09:00. 4 Whooper Swans at Coll. 3 Lapland Buntings at the Butt of Lewis.

North Uist: juvenile Curlew Sandpiper and juvenile Little Stint Loch Paible. 2 Lapland Buntings Aird un Runair.

South Uist: Grey Wagtail over South Glendale.

15th September:

Lewis: Pectoral Sandpiper and Spotted Redshank briefly at the Butt of Lewis.

14th September:

Lewis: 12 Great Shearwaters, 225 Sooty Shearwaters, 118 Manx Shearwaters, 1 Leach's Petrel, 1 Storm Petrel passed the Butt of Lewis (07:00 - 13:00). Over 800 Pink-footed Geese flew east over north Lewis in the evening including 590 over Stornoway in 25 minutes (Tristan ap Rheinhallt).

South Uist: Grey Phalarope at Ardvule. 2 Buff-breasted Sandpiper Rangehead.

13th September:

South Uist: 2 Buff-breasted Sandpipers Rangehead. Leach's Petrel Ardvule in the evening.

12th September:

South Uist: Pectoral Sandpiper at Balgarva.

Barra: juvenile Rose-coloured Starling and juvenile Red-backed Shrike in Castle Bay. Also Whitethroat and 2 Grey Wagtails on the island.

Lewis: Great Shearwater off Labost. Also 7 Lapland Buntings nearby.

Other: Basking Shark and 10 distant dolphins off Labost.

11th September:

North Uist: Buff-breasted Sandpiper Baleshare. Also 2 Lapland Buntings here.

South Uist: Mediterranean Gull at Ardvule again this morning. Wood Sandpiper Howmore River and Little Stint at Balgarva. Slavonian Grebe on Loch Eilean an Staoir, Milton.

Barra: Booted Warbler reported from Castle Bay.

Other: This Trigger Fish was found on Baleshare beach yesterday by Anne Rabbitts. It is quite rare in the waters around here although common in the Mediterranean. Have a look at: http://busybee.mba.ac.uk/species/Balistescapriscus.htm

10th September:

Lewis: Baird's Sandpiper at Butt of Lewis briefly today. Sea-watching produced the following between 06:20 - 12:00: 1,076 Great Shearwaters, 1 Cory's Shearwater now thought to be a Cape Verde Shearwater!. 217 Sooty Shearwaters, juvnile Sabine's Gull, 3 Grey Phalarope, 1 adult Long-tailed Skua, 1 adult Pomarine Skua, 21 Great Skua, 13 Arctic Skuas, 1 Leach's Petrel, 1 Common Scoter, 5 Wigeon, 22 Teal.

North Uist: 2 juvenile Sabine's Gull passed Griminish Point between 06:30 and 11:00. Additional species: 2 Common Scoter, 127 Brent Geese (80,17,30), 34 Wigeon (20,6,8), 9 Sooty Shearwaters, 1 Storm Petrel, adult Pomarine Skua, 11 Arctic Skuas, 8 Great Skuas and 40 Arctic Terns.

South Uist: Wood Sandpiper Howmore River. Juvenile - 1st winter Mediterranean Gull Ardvule.

9th September:

Lewis: Great Shearwaters seen off the Butt of Lewis, Bru and Labost. 27 Greats off Labost in the afternoon plus 33 Sooty Shearwaters. 165 Greats and 16 Sooty Shearwaters off the Butt of Lewis. 3 Great Shearwaters off Bru.

North Uist: 73 Great Shearwaters off Griminish Point plus 135 Sooty Shearwaters and 2 Pomarine Skuas.

South Uist: Great Shearwater passed Ardvule this morning plus 30+ Sooty Shearwaters, 3 Storm Petrel and a juvenile Little Gull (07:30 - 11:30). Wood Sandpiper on Howmore River. 2 Lapland Buntings Orosay Island

Other: Dead male Pilot Whale on rocks at Borve Point, Benbecula.

8th September:

St. Kilda: Pectoral Sandpiper.

Lewis: Massive movement of Great Shearwaters passed the Butt of Lewis today with 7,114 birds seen heading north-west out of the Minch between 07:00 - 17:30. Other birds seen: 1 Cory's Shearwater, 3 juvenile Sabine's Gulls, 2 Grey Phalarope, 5 Leach's Petrels, 111 Storm Petrels, 501 Sooty Shearwaters, around 100 Manx Shearwaters, 4 Pomarine Skuas, 19 Arctic Skuas, 47 Great Skua, 28 Arctic Terns.

South Uist: adult summer moulting American Golden Plover on The Range plus Buff-breasted Sandpiper. Juvenile Little Stint at Balgarva.

Other: 2 Killer Whales and a Sunfish off the Butt of Lewis.

Insects: Red Admiral Drimsdale, South Uist.

7th September:

South Uist: 3 Sooty Shearwaters and a Storm Petrel off Ardvule (08:20 - 10:00).

Insects: 2 Painted Lady's at Eochar, Painted Lady and Red Admiral at Drimsdale, South Uist.

6th September:

Benbecula: 27 Black-tailed Godwits and a single Ruff in silage field close to Loch Mor.

South Uist: Pectoral Sandpiper at Balgarva.

5th September:

South Uist: 24 Sooty Shearwaters and 1 Storm Petrel passed Ardvule between 07:50 and 14:30.

4th September:

North Uist: Grey Wagtail today over ferry terminal at Lochmaddy.

3rd September:

Benbecula: 35 juvenile Black-tailed Godwits and 2 Ruff in freshly cut fields by Loch Mor.

South Uist: Lapland Bunting over South Glendale this morning. Immature Glaucous Gull Howmore River.

Moths and butterflies: 25 species of macro moth trapped last night between Drimsdale, Druidibeg and Carnan, South Uist. Species included Mouse Moth at Drimsdale, Northern Spinach at Carnan and Heath Rustic at Druidibeg. At least 4 Painted Ladys around Drimsdale this morning.

2nd September:

Lewis: Juvenile Sabine's Gull passed Labost today plus 2 Grey Phalarope, 1 Long-tailed Skua, 1 Pomarine Skua and 193 Sooty Shearwaters (06:15 - 19:30).

South Uist: Bonaparte's Gull at Ardvule plus 36 juvenile Black-tailed Godwits.

1st September:

Lewis: Long-tailed Skua off Labost.

South Uist: Lesser Yellowlegs at Peninerine this afternoon. Grey Phalarope passed Ardvule (07:15) plus around 4 or 5 Sooty Shearwaters and a Storm Petrel. 24 Black-tailed Godwits at Ardvule and 4 at Peninerine.
