South Uist: 2 female Common Scoters flew north off Kilpheder this morning.
Marine Sightings: 4 Bottle-nosed Dolphins were south-west of Kilpheder this morning and at least 5 swam into the Sound of Barra from the west later. Another 2 were also off the west of Smerclate at the same time as the latter group.
30th July:
North Uist: A Whimbrel and Common Sandpiper were at Aird an Runair today.
29th July:
Benbecula: 3 Whimbrel flew south over Peter's Port this afternoon.
South Uist: A juvenile Mediterranean Gull was at Ardivachar this morning. A Knot and 2 Whimbrel were at Ardvule.
Insects: At least 7 Red Admirals were at North Loch Eynort.
27th July:
North Uist: A Redwing was seen at the west end of Grimsay this morning.
South Uist: 113 Black-tailed Godwits and 4 Greenshank flew south at Ardvule this morning.
26th July:
South Uist: A 'blue' Fulmar was seen from the Lochboisdale - Oban ferry just off South Uist this afternoon. A Fieldfare was seen in a garden at Carnan.
Marine Sightings: Around 6 Basking Sharks, 40 Common Dolphins and 2 Minke Whales were seen on the Lochbiosdale - Oban crossing this afternoon; including an individual repeatedly breaching.
Insects: 540 moths of 56 species were trapped at Carinish last night including 4 Bird-cherry Ermines.
25th July:
Insects: A Dun-bar moth was trapped at Druidibeg last night. The micro Ochsenheimeria urella was captured at Carinish yesterday evening.
24th July:
St. Kilda: A female Whinchat was seen on Hirta yesterday.
North Uist: 2 redpolls were at Scotvein, Grimsay today.
Insects: 651 moths of 50 species were trapped at Carinish last night including a Double Dart. A Painted Lady was at Sctovein, Grimsay.
Marine Sightings: 200 Common Dolphins were off Gravir on the east side of Lewis yesterday.
23rd July:
Harris: 14 Common Scoters were in the Sound of Taransay this morning.
Insects: A Barred Straw, Yponomeuta evonymella and Elophila nymphaeata were trapped in South Glendale last night. 2 Dark Green Fritillaries were at Claddach Baleshare this afternoon.
Marine Sightings: A Harbour Porpoise was seen in the Sound of Harris from the Leverburgh - Berneray ferry this morning.
22nd July:
Insects: Moth trapping on Daliburgh machair last night produced 408 moths of 34 species including 41 Archer’s Darts, 4 Flounced Rustic, a Mouse Moth, 3 Barred Rivulets, Heart and Dart and micros included 4 Bryotropha terrella, 3 Celypha cespitana, 2 Eudonia pallida, 1 Cnephasia conspersana, 66 Agriphila tristella. In South Glendale 322 moths of 68 species were caught including a Common Footman, Chestnut-coloured Carpet, 3 Lempke's Gold Spot, 2 Scarce Silver Y and micros Gynnidomorpha permixtana, Bactra lacteana, Eudonia lineola, Eudonia mercurella, Eudonia truncicolella, Epinotia caprana.
21st July:
Insects: Moth trapping on Eriskay last night produced 280 moths of 63 species including 19 Rustic, 5 Northern Rustic, 2 Barred Rivulet, 5 Scotch Annulet, a Grey Mountain Carpet, Chestnut-coloured Carpet, Thyme Pug and the micros Eudonia lineola and Rhigognostis annulatella.
20th July:
Insects: 416 moths of 71 species were trapped at South Glendale last night including a Dotted Carpet, Riband Wave, Small Fan-footed Wave, Rustic, 3 Six-striped Rustic, an Elephant Hawkmoth, 2 Marsh Oblique-barred. Micros included Acrobasis advenella – new for OH, Aphelia paleana, 2 Eudonia mercurella, 2 Eudonia truncicolella, 3 Eudonia pallida, Pyrausta despicata.
19th July:
North Uist: 2 Whimbrel were at Paible today.
18th July:
Insects: Moth trapping at North Loch Eynort last night produced 3 Riband Wave, 6 Small Fan-footed Waves, 3 Brimstone Moths, 6 Barred Red, 4 Light Emerald , a Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing, 2 Pinion-streaked Snout and micros: Zeiraphera griseana, Zeiraphera ratzeburgiana, Blastbasis adustella and Eana penziana.
17th July:
North Uist: 19 Black-tailed Godwits are on Loch Sandary this evening and 110 were at Loch Paible this morning.
South Uist: 28 Black-tailed Godwits were on Loch Bee today.
Marine Sightings: A Harbour Porpoise was seen in the Sound of Harris from the Berneray - Leverburgh ferry this morning.
16th July:
North Uist: 2 Whimbrel were at Claddach Baleshare today.
South Uist: 3 Black-tailed Godwits are at Loch an't-Saile.
15th July:
South Uist: A Goosander was on the coast between Peninerine and Stoneybridge today.
Other: A Pyramidal Orchid is flowering in Lochmaddy.
14th July:
Benbecula: Around 60 Black-tailed Godwits were on Loch Mor this afternoon and another 30 flew south over Loch Fada. A Cuckoo was seen at Muir of Aird.
South Uist: 12 Black-tailed Godwits flew south over Balgarva.
Insects: 202 moths of 52 species were trapped in South Glendale last night. Best were a Marsh Oblique-barred and an Apotomis semifasciana.
12th July:
North Uist: 2 Whimbrel were at Rushgarry, Berneray and 2 were near the visitor centre at Balranald.
Insects: 209 moths of 48 species were trapped in South Glendale last night including 2 Barred Straw and Gynnidomorpha permixtana.
11th July:
Insects: 50 species of moth were trapped at Carinish last night including a Mottled Rustic.
10th July:
South Uist: 2 Sandwich Terns were feeding off Ardivachar today.
Insects: A Dotted Rustic and Daimond-back Moth were trapped at Carinish last night. A Grey Mountain Carpet, 8 Northern Rustic, 2 Rustic, a Common Footman and a Treble-bar were trapped on the sea cliffs below Roineaval, South Glendale last night.
9th July:
North Uist: 15 Black-tailed Godwits dropped in at Bayhead this afternoon.
6th July:
South Uist: 13 Black-tailed Godwits were on Loch Bee today.
4th July:
North Uist: A Whitethroat is still singing in Carinish.
South Uist: An adult Long-tailed Skua drifted north off Ardvule this morning; also an Arctic Skua, Great Skua and 435 Manx Shearwaters.
3rd July:
Benbecula: 58 Black-tailed Godwits were on Loch Mor.
South Uist: 11 Common Scoters and 2 Great Northern Diver flew south off Ardvule this morning.
2nd July:
North Uist: A Swift flew south over Carinish this morning and a Whitethroat was singing there this afternoon.
1st July:
Harris - Benbecula: 89 Storm Petrels were seen between Harris and Benbecula whilst an adult Long-tailed Skua was reported 1/2 a mile to the east of Benbecula
North Uist: 8 Sand Martins flew over Carinish this afternoon.
Insects: A Rusty Dot Pearl and a Common Wave were trapped at Carinish over the last 2 nights, amongst many other moths.
Marine Sightings: 4 Minke Whales and 48 Harbour Porpoise were seen between Harris and Benbecula.
